Love where you live!
MT. HELIX -- If you think life is short, join a fat flushing boot camp. We began following Jake Glaze's Adventure program last Monday at 5:45 a.m. and the intervening week felt like a month.
After a few outings, the first light of day started to feel like the finger's of death clawing at your hamstrings and tendons.
It truly has been a voyage of discovery -- the two dozen women and I have discovered parts of our body that we didn't know we had.
We also discovered by painstakingly studying ingredients and menus that, for the most part, we developed the need for this camp by eating more calories than we used each day. When you start equating that bag of potato chips with five laps around the inclines of Mt. Helix, it becomes easier to JUST SAY NO!
Truth be told, there is an intensity to this kind of daily, proscribed exercise that creates an esprit de corps among the women. We all suffer together. This must be, I thought, what men and women feel like as drill sergeants whip them into fighting shape at Camp Pendleton.
We have nine more days in this 14 day program. Our ranks thinned a bit after days 1 and 2, but most have remained and by the second week, the first rays of day have begun to look beautiful again. We hope the same for all of us!
