After 11 years, Memorials Still Buck Routines

LA MESA -- Eleven years after the terrorist attacks on New York's World Trade Center and the yearly memorials are starting to take on the look and feel of Pearl Harbor for an earlier generation.
Flags flew at half staff across the country. There was a 30 second moment of silence prior to Tuesday's City Council meeting.
Yet some elements still showed the relative freshness of this tragedy.
College students organized memorials (see story below) and on an overpass along I-8, a La Mesa woman was moved to simply fly the flag as thousands of motorists past during rush hour below.
"Don't let them take our country,'' was all she would say. "Don't let them take our country.''
