Police Plan Special Speeding Enforcement
LA MESA -- La Mesa police are planning special speeding enforcement efforts over the next few weeks in an effort to slow traffic before the resumption of the next school year. Officers will be running radar in areas where local residents have complained about speeding in the past.
Case Highlights:
On Friday, July 13, the USA Gas Station located at 9600 Murray Drive was robbed. No weapon was seen by the clerk, but the suspects were able to steal items from the store after a brief struggle with the employee. The employee was not injured during the robbery. The suspects were described as being white males, both 20 years old. Suspect #1 was 5’6”, thin, wearing a black baseball cap, green or grey sweater and jeans. Suspect #2 was 5’4”, heavy, wearing a grey shirt and jeans.
If you have any information on this robbery, please call La Mesa Police at (619) 667-1400.
Traffic Information:
One of the most common complaints by La Mesa residents to the Police Department are about speeders in their neighborhoods. Before schools begin their fall semesters in about 3 weeks, the traffic Unit will be looking at the specific complaints and addressing them through extra enforcement before they have a negative impact on the added morning and afternoon traffic that comes with the schools being in session. Also, since speeding is the leading cause of injury traffic collisions, please be aware of your speed as you drive so that you both stay safe and don’t receive a ticket!
Crime Prevention/Emergency Preparedness:
This summer, take precautions to prevent home and vehicle burglaries. When home, use secondary locks to keep open windows secured. When leaving the house, even for five minutes, or going to bed, close and lock all doors and windows. Although the inside of vehicles can get hot in a parking lot, leaving windows cracked can help criminals burglarize your car. Remember to secure your vehicle when parking and remove all valuables. For more information, contact the crime prevention unit at 667-7545.
On Tuesday, August 7, the City of La Mesa will participate in National Night Out. Every August, La Mesa Neighborhood Watch groups organize fun community events with their neighbors and friends to promote crime prevention and strengthen police and community partnerships. Gather your neighbors and organize a fun, outdoor activity. Register your event with the Police Department by JULY 24th and a representative from the City of La Mesa and a police officer will stop by! You can also visit “National Night Out Central” at Grossmont Center from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.for an Emergency Preparedness Fair. This family friendly event is a fun and easy way to learn how to prepare for a disaster. For more information or to register your neighborhood event, call 667-7545.
Department Information:
Last week, the La Mesa Police Department hosted the first 4-day Youth Leadership Camp, which instructed 23 high school teens how to be effective leaders and how to serve the needs of the community. During the graduation ceremonies, parents and participating teens gave high praise to the program. One parent summed up the sentiments by saying, “I just wanted to tell you how thrilled we are that our son was able to participate in the Leadership Camp. Everyone involved was exceptionally dedicated and caring. The program was well planned and a lot of fun. The experiences you provided will have a positive, life- long effect for our son. It would be great if this concept caught on in other cities in Southern California.”

Comment by Dennis S. Twiss on July 18, 2012 at 11:54am Hmm, I'm wondering... will this special enforcement by done with the normal staffing of officers, or will it require overtime and/or increased staffing? If the increased ticketing doesn't generate enough income for the City, then the taxpayers here will end up footing the bill with increased costs for staffing - wages, benefits, and pensions.

Short sales routinely show up in credit reports as foreclosures
Source: Los Angeles Times
Large numbers of homeowners who have negotiated short sales are at risk because of a startling omission in the credit system. Their credit reports and scores indicate that they were foreclosed upon, rather than having negotiated a mutually agreeable resolution with their lender, and the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are investigating why and how this happened.
