Vandals Toss Bottle Bomb At Trolley
LA MESA -- Police are investigating an incident in which someone tossed a homemade explosive device along the trolley tracks near a Spring Street trolley station Tuesday evening.
Just before 8 p.m. , police responded to a report that a bottle bomb had exploded at the trolley station located at 4250 Spring Street.
Responding officers located a deformed 16 ounce plastic bottle on the trolley platform. It appears the bottle had been filled with unknown chemicals that caused the bottle to fill with gases and explode. After reviewing the surveillance video, it was determined that someone threw the bottle from a vacant lot west of the trolley station. The bottle struck a passing trolley and fell to the ground. A few minutes later the bottle exploded. There were no injuries from the explosion and the trolley was not damaged.
The suspect(s) were not found and have not been identified. At this time there is no additional suspect information.
