A Special Memorial Day Delivery For La Mesa

WASHINGTON D.C. -- City Councilman Dave Allan arrived right on schedule in the nation's capital Monday to deliver a special Memorial Day message from La Mesa.

Allan, above with capital staffers Ellen Malin of Rep. Duncan Hunter's office, and Ericka Perryman, of Rep. Darrell Issa's office, placed the special La Mesa commemorative marker at the World War II Memorial on the Washington Mall. Allan originally intended to leave the marker at the Vietnam Memorial, but security for President Barack Obama's speech there Monday prohibited leaving anything at that memorial for the day.

"The marker will be picked up and added to the Vietnam memorial mementos,'' Allan said. "I'm proud to have gotten it here for the city.''

The special marker enshrined in glass the monuments the city erected this year to dedicate a portion of Fletcher Parkway as Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Allan is almost midway on his cross-country motorcycle tour, which included this Memorial Day mission.

"Now that this is done, we're getting back on the bikes and heading for a little vacation up the coast,'' Allan said.

Traveling with a friend, Allan is heading to Gettysburg before returning to California.

Dave Allan  is the type of man who accepts this kind of assignment with enthusiasm and follows it through to completion with honor and dignity. We all owe him our thanks.

Some homes are slow to sell even in the hottest markets

With full-fledged sellers’ markets underway in dozens of metropolitan areas around the country, new research has found curious statistical patterns emerging: Even in cities where listings get multiple offers within days or hours, significant numbers of homes are sitting on the market for six months, 12 months, or more with no takers. Among the reasons: Mispricing, excessive restrictions on access to buyers and agents, failure to clean or make repairs, and a variety of other marketing bungles.  Read the full story.
