On La Mesa: Drought Politics

Shadows Of Times Past

LA MESA -- Skipping through the news today I came across an article which caused me pause. Not really "just" pause but in fact visions of history I have studied for many years. The shadows and images of these memories never fail to bring about first a shudder…

Come On Winter!!!

As the temperature continues to go up my wife, my wee dog and I am staying indoors more and more of the time. Cant even really enjoy my backyard paradise we have worked so hard over the years to develop. Whew! The weather prognosticaters alternate between wide smiles and sorrowful faces as they predict more of the same. Whew! Of course, all is not lost. SDG&E is…

Frustration

Just an observation, one that's very frustrating and off putting to me. I have been watching news coverage and listening closely to world developments. Apart from the disastrous news I find myself being distracted by an English, possibly an American bastardization of our language - "You Know". Many years ago I observed young people, apparently owing to failing education… Continue

Hope or pebbles?

Last evening I had the opportunity to sit down with a small group of people from throughout the East County, calling themselves the "East County Tax Hawks". I went to the meeting with many doubts because, like my Blog about "pebbles against the stone wall", there seems damned little any one of us can do to fight the establishment. This establishment is well "established" and generally, whilst polite, ignores any and all…

Big talk from cowards

Remember when you were in school? There were always a few punks who talked loud, pushed people around - always smaller than themselves - and bullied any and all that were afraid. I met a few and, broke one nose in those meetings. I discovered what most others never did or will: Stand up to them, get tougher than them, beat them at their own game and, on occasion, give them a licking they will always deny but never forget.…

Pebbles against the stone wall

I am just back from the Helix Water District meeting. Their agenda today was pretty large but my area of concern was their labour negotiations, etc. As I sit here I am amazed. Some 260,000 customers go to their mailboxes and extract their water bill each month. It would seem from the monumental turn out that practically all are either totally satisfied with their monthly bills, perfectly happy how the District continues…

Uh oh. Watch close now!

Years ago whilst visiting Carlsbad Caverns, I was strolling downward through the vista.  I noted what appeared to be a thin crust of material between many of the stalagmites on the floor. (Hope I got that right. I can never remember which is which). This crusty material seemed to be rather a frothy surface, very thin and fragile in appearance and standing several inches above the cavern floor, attached only to the stony…

Hey La Mesa!!

Hey!, La Mesa! Get up. Its a beautiful morning in the singularly most beautiful place in southern California. Opened my door this morning and the puppy scampered out to play. Looked up in the sky and thought, "Well, just another day in Paradise". If you're a football fan, tonight's the night. But you/we still have all day. Get in the car, drive down to the Village, park it and lets go for a stroll up and down the… Continue

The quiet breeze of love and civility. Ah, brotherhood.

I just now completed watching a video taken of a recent demonstration held by a group of "champions of the people" wherein they were shouting against the "hate speech" of what they called the "Right Wing Hate Mongers". I sat for a moment in somewhat shock at what I saw but certainly not surprised by any of the content. Held apparently only days ago owing to some of the comments, all the attendees were shouting or…

Dismay!!!

I am surprised, shocked and dismayed at the almost total LACK of response to the recent blog regarding personal safety and defense posted here and available in our community.  Inspite of "Official" reports of the decline in crime in La Mesa, the opposite is in fact the truth. More women are falling victim of parking lot crimes, bus stop crimes, bank crimes, you name it. I read about the self defense classes offered at…

Constitutional Crises

It would seem we are now in a Constitutional Crises.  Florida Judge Vinson studied and ruled the new and abomnable Obama Healthcare Law UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Per this ruling, all efforts and attempts to initiate this law into actual operation must cease and the law be set aside.  Well ...... scream as they will about everything said and done by any and all Conservatives, the Progressive Socialist Democrats and the…

"Rainy Monday."

One Monday, a few storms ago, I walked out in my front yard and looked at the sky. It had been raining all night and continued into the morning but it was juuuuussst starting to clear abit. The sky over the Village was so beautiful I rushed to my studio and, brush in hand, rendered the above painting.… Continue

And the crowd goes wild!

The nation, nay the world, waits breathlessly in anticipation of words from perhaps the greatest world leader in our time if not history. The announcement is made and in comes the great one followed by his entourage of minions, henchmen and fawning sycophants. The world is treated to an exhibit of "aint I great" and a chorus of "Look At Me" as they wind their way to their seats, arranged to appear as though they are filled…

Why do YOU hate Sarah Palin?

I just watched an upcoming "news" release of a program airing January 21st wherein yet another "comedy" spot was performed mocking Sarah Palin. In truth it was just another Progressive hate spot. So I wonder: What elicits so much hatred for this one person throughout the entire country? Think about it. Not a single day passes, nay often a single hour, without a "hate spot" on television, newspaper, radio and that…
