Couple Awakened By Burglar

CASA DE ORO – Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, a La Mesa couple were awakened by an intruder who turned the light on in their bedroom.

The couple, who live in the 4300 block of Merritt Boulevard, called 911 and police arrived as the intruder was exiting the home.

Police arrested 21-year-old Antonio Renojjurez of Los Angeles and charged him with residential burglary.

Police say Ronojjurez had belongings of the startled couple in his possession when he was arrested.

Score One For Candid Camera

GUAVA AVENUE – La Mesa police arrested a man who was caught on a home’s surveillance camera exposing himself and attempting to burglarize the home.

Police said the man – 27-year-old Matthew Henigan of San Diego – knocked on the door of a home in the 2100 block of Guava Avenue on April 12th. He allegedly tried to sell candy and left the area when the occupant refused.

Thieves Use Truck To Smash Business in Attempt To Steal ATM

LA MESA – A bold but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to steal an ATM machine left a downtown La Mesa business in shambles over night.

Police said at about 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, two suspects used a vehicle to break into the La Mesa Mailboxes businesses located in the 8200 block of La Mesa Boulevard. The burglars backed into the business several times, causing major damage, but failing to steal the ATM. Police Warn of Con-Woman Working La Mesa

LA MESA – City Police are warning that a female thief has been using a special trick to win her way into the home of unsuspecting residents.

Police said the woman knocked on the door of a home in the 4500 block of Harbinson Avenue in La Mesa and told the resident that she was a friend of the resident’s daughter, using the correct name for the daughter. Man Robs Pool Supply Store

PARKWAY DRIVE – A robber spent Wednesday morning choosing between a hair salon and a pool supply store for his next target.

At about 12:23 p.m., police say, the robber, a lone male, chose the pool store.

The suspect waited until other customers had exited Leslie Pool Supply at 8274 Parkway Drive and then attacked the female clerk, putting her in a head lock, choking her and then forcing open the cash drawers.

Police Make Arrest in Car Break-In

LA MESA – Police Saturday night made some quick progress in combating the recent spate of car break-ins.

Police received a call at about 11:30 p.m. that a car had been broken into on Echo Drive, a street not far from downtown La Mesa that runs near highway 125.

A La Mesa woman told police a Filipino male had broken the passenger window of her vehicle and ran from the area carrying property stolen from the car.

Car Burglaries Vexing Residents, City Police

FLETCHER PARKWAY – A rash of car burglaries in recent weeks has La Mesa police advising local residents to take special precautions to protect vehicles and possessions.

The car break-ins have happened in areas throughout the city but, police say, have a familiar pattern. The thieves target a small area and several cars will have windows smashed and possessions stolen. The thefts generally occur in the late evening and up until sunrise.

Arrests Made in Park Fight

NORTHMONT PARK – La Mesa police say it started with some young men fighting over a girl.

It ended Wednesday with a victim still struggling for life in a hospital and three teens facing felony charges – including attempted murder.

Cops Nab Suspect in Sunday Afternoon Robbery

DALLAS STREET – The open season on La Mesa’s gas stations and convenience stores just got a little less open.

La Mesa police at about 3:45 p.m. Sunday received a call that the Shell Station at 9090 Dallas Street had been robbed by a black male who demanded cash and fled in a van.

Spate of Robberies Continues; Circle K, Youth Hit

LA MESA – Police were investigating two robberies that occurred within thirty minutes of each other generally within the Village portion of La Mesa.

At 10:32 p.m. a juvenile was stopped by a group of five other youths near 4200 Spring Street after he was exiting the 7-Eleven store on Palm Avenue. Pier 1 Robbery

Grossmont Center - A man armed with a knife robbed the Pier 1 Imports store early today. The suspect forced the female clerk to open the safe while holding an object, possibly a knife, against her back. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen running into the nearby parking structure. The suspect was described as a black male, 20-25 years old, 6 foot tall, 165 pounds, wearing a black ski mask, gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and white tennis shoes.

Another Armed Robbery in La Mesa

LA MESA -- Another business has been hit by an armed robber.

Late Sunday night police say an armed robber entered the Union-76 gas station at 6085 Lake Murray Boulevard, flashed a handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes. The clerk obliged and the man -- described as a white male, 5-9 to 6' -- fled on foot. No vehicle was identified and no one was injured in the event.
