Hi Everyone!

La Mesa's Youth Advisory Commission is currently teaching elementary school kids about healthy eating, and physical nutrition. Every Wednesday and Friday at 3:30, Youth Commissioners head over to La Mesa Dale Elementary and teach the kids from the 'Power Play!' workbook.

Power Play is a program that teaches kids about what kinds of foods are good for them, how many fruits and veggies they should be eating, and how much exercise they should be getting.

If you have any questions or comments, let us know!

Youth Commission: Founding and Mission

The ordinance to create La Mesa's Youth Commission was adopted on June 25, 1991. Our first meeting was held in February of 1992. The mission of the Youth Advisory Commission is to advise La Mesa City Council on policy matters pertaining to programs, projects, and issues which address the concerns of youth in the community. We currently have nine commissioners and two alternates.

We meet as a commission every second and fourth Monday of the month. Our meetings are open to the public and we encourage people to come and join us. Aside from those meetings, we also meet in order to carry out our projects and goals. Check our blog for activities we have participated in.

Yes, thank you for sharing, Sandy.  Unfortunately, unemployment has an invisible face to the employed. When my boyfriend was unemployed for 6 months, he was the butt of many a poor joke and snide comment from my family, who are all employed and…

I would love to see this happen.  Especially if we could get it to happen all over the city and not just at Grossmont Center.

Any chance this group can also pitch in and help deliver the Saturday mail in the village?  In an effort to cut some $20 billion in costs, the Postal Service plans to close post offices around the county, and ending Saturday delivery…

LA MESA CENTENNIAL

A Call To Celebrate La Mesa's Centennial WithNoisy "Flash Mob" Car Alarms & Horns, Bells, Whistles!  LA MESA -- Wouldn’t it be unique to celebrate La Mesa's Centennial with a synchronized chorus of celebratory noise. At a pre-determined instant in time, every La Mesa loving resident and their pals would honk their car horns, hit those panic buttons, and/or turn on those obnoxious car alarms. We could even allow the kids, and the kids in all of us adults, to bang pots and pans, hit trash can…See More
