Youth Commission: Founding and Mission
The ordinance to create La Mesa's Youth Commission was adopted on June 25, 1991. Our first meeting was held in February of 1992. The mission of the Youth Advisory Commission is to advise La Mesa City Council on policy matters pertaining to programs, projects, and issues which address the concerns of youth in the community. We currently have nine commissioners and two alternates.
We meet as a commission every second and fourth Monday of the month. Our meetings are open to the public and we encourage people to come and join us. Aside from those meetings, we also meet in order to carry out our projects and goals. Check our blog for activities we have participated in.

La Mesa's Youth Advisory Commission is currently teaching elementary school kids about healthy eating, and physical nutrition. Every Wednesday and Friday at 3:30, Youth Commissioners head over to La Mesa Dale Elementary and teach the kids from the 'Power Play!' workbook.
Power Play is a program that teaches kids about what kinds of foods are good for them, how many fruits and veggies they should be eating, and how much exercise they should be getting.
