ALERT! Opting out from San Diego Gas & Electric radiation-emitting smart utility meters? After three years, it will be no cost. Also, your analog meter (if opting out) will be read every two months rather than monthly, and estimated in between, starting immediately, both ordered by the CPUC on Dec. 19th.Many people in CA are getting rid of the so-called "smart" (but very dumb) utility meters, to protect their health from the pulsed microwave radiation which according to wireless experts and the American Association of Environmental Medicine cause problems like ringing ears, headaches, dizziness, heart problems and more. For more info go to www.electrosmogprevention.org.
Feb. 6, 2015 6:45 PM Looks like a major accident where the overpass from 8 East merges into the 125 North, above Fletcher Parkway. Visible from Albertson's on Fletcher Parkway. Must have involved multiple cars as there were at least 8-10 ambulances and fire trucks lined up there just a little while ago. Anyone who can post more, please do.

Who Hijacked La Mesa's Trees?
The City of La Mesa has cut down all the shade trees along its commercial mainstreet. This occurred as construction began on the La Mesa Boulevard Streetscape "enhancement" project. Some of these trees were tattered, unhealthy, or buckling the sidewalks. However, rather than replacing these trees with environmentally and pedestrian friendly shade trees (e.g. native varieties like Western Sycamores, Live Oak, or Black Oak), the city removed nearly all the trees, problematic or not, and will be replacing them mostly with the grossly overused fan palm. Shade trees will be limited primarily to street corners.
During the streetscape public workshops, there were several negative community comments, and no positive comments, regarding the proposal to install palm trees. In contrast, several commenters expressed the desire for more shade trees, even detailing that such trees should be mature full canopy trees. Nevertheless, the city stuck with their plans to replace shade trees with palm trees. Why were the workshop suggestions ignored?
Fan palms provide minimal climate change mitigation and pedestrian benefit, as they provide almost no shade and no distinction from nearly every street in the city. See e.g., Piety and Perversity: The Palms of Los Angeles and Are Trees to Blame for the Lack of Shade in Southern California? Other California communities are abandoning the use palm trees as a landscaping mainstays. They are now often associated with the suburban shopping center era of the 70s and 80s and the faux tropical fascination image held by transplants from more wintery states. Who's plan is this? It clearly doesn't reflect the community workshop feedback.
