Casual Survey - What Type of Businesses Do We Need in La Mesa?

I am curious, what businesses do you think we need to attract to La Mesa? This could be services, retail, commercial, etc. What goods or services do you have to leave the area for now, that you would prefer to obtain here? Any other thoughts on the subject?

I would love to see a good bakery like Bread and Cie, and some mid century antiques!
I would love to not have to go out of town for organic shopping, especially Jimbo's and Whole Foods. And a't Burger Lounge would fit in perfectly.
I look at the empty corner spot on the corner of La Mesa Blvd and Spring and think, wouldn't a nice yoga studio just be perfect right here.
YES! We need to encourage more profitable businesses to La Mesa. After that we need to support those busisnesses so that our tax revenue can grow! We have numerious non-profit groups ( Chamber, The Village Merchants Assoc etc) who have limited success for generating support of local businesses. I often think of Earl Fite Plumbing as an example of a long term and overlooked business. Maybe, we should support what we have first and then other businesses would jump at the opportunity to try La Mesa.
Small business is the foundation of new and profitable community growth, yet it seems that only the big corporate busisnesses receive incentives. Maybe we need to concider improving our zoning laws. Let's face it the City of La Mesa is a business! For the present we are limited by too many regulations and laws that hamper free market decisions. YES! We have a whole series of issues and problems that need attention.
Imagine the risk that any new venture faces, concider the investment and finally the reward of profit.
I would love to see a mid-century modern antiques store, as well, along the burgeoning antiques row. I would love to see all the storefronts open for business in some way, shape or form -- businesses that draw more people to the village and keep sidewalks bustling but don't drastically alter the character that is so appealing to us right now. Small, independent, trendy destinations for residents and everyone else who discovers that La Mesa is the place to be!

More industrial buisnesses would be good for the tax base and provide employment. Easing up on environmental regulation would help the industrialites. Back in the 80s the City of La Mesa made it tougher for industry by outlawing gasoline storage tanks on all property except gas stations. Several buisnesses with large fleets of vehicles had to move out of town.
